Thermage, it’s the buzz. Millions

This is the question we asked when researching resurfacing
systems. Most patients who are considering facial resurfacing
want to reduce the appearance of deep and fine wrinkles,

Traditional CO2 laser resurfacing provides

BLU-U® ACNE TREATMENT
Are you looking for an alternative to tedious antibiotic regimens
and messy acne creams? You may be a candidate for BLU-U acne
treatment. The BLU-U is a special blue light whose specific
wavelength kills acne-causing bacteria deep in the skin. The
BLU-U is very safe and not hot or painful at all. A series

PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY
Those who live with severe cystic acne not only endure the
embarrassment of unsightly pustules and cysts, but are frequently
tormented by permanent scars and pitting of the skin. For these
reasons, severe acne patients are often desperate for help.
Today there is a treatment that can help those with even
severe acne. When used to treat acne, Levulan PDT can make
a significant impact on acne cysts, while its rejuvenating effects
soften acne scarring. Used correctly, it can improve acne
faster and more completely than most any other treatment.
How PDT is performed is simple. First, liquid Levulan is applied
to the face. The levulan penetrates deeply, and is absorbed
by sebaceous glands. Next, the Levulan is activated or “turned
on” by a special light called the BLU-U. Finally, an
intense light treatment also known as a “Fotofacial”,
is performed, further activating the Levulan, while also clearing
age spots, broken capillaries, fine lines and acne scars.
The “big gun” in acne treatment…
Levulan’s effectiveness is a result of its unique three-pronged
effect. First, acne-causing bacteria are destroyed by the
BLU-U, second, clogged pores are opened by PDT’S exfoliating
action, and third and most importantly, PDT shrinks the sebaceous
glands- the root cause of the acne. Prior to Levulan PDT, only
Accutane could shut down sebaceous glands. However, Accutane
is extremely drying, and may cause liver and vision abnormalities,
as well as birth defects. Levulan carries none of these risks,
and because of PDT’s triple action- even patients who
failed to respond to Accutane may benefit from PDT.
An extraordinary advance in facial rejuvenation…
So, is Levulan only for acne? Actually, Levulan can be combined
with a Fotofacial, to amplify the Fotofacial’s rejuvenating
effects. Discoloration, age spots and rosacea are visibly improved,
as are fine lines and wrinkles. Skin texture improves and
pore size is diminished. The effect of Levulan added to a Fotofacial
is so dramatic, that this combined treatment is often known
as the “Power Fotofacial”. Since one PDT treatment
has the effect of several standard IPL treatments, some now
consider PDT to be the gold standard in non-surgical facial
rejuvenation.
Levulan Photodynamic Therapy is a powerful treatment and as
such, it requires that one stay out of the sun for 48 hours
after treatment. The skin turns red and peels in the following
3 to 7 days after treatment. After a week, there may be some
residual redness, which can be covered up with make-up.
Although some recovery time is required, most patients readily
accept this trade off since they understand the power of PDT.
They don’t mind the temporary peeling and redness, because
they see the improvement in their lives very quickly. Even
though there is no “cure” for acne, PDT can give
a severe acne patient control over their acne. And, for patients
who desire facial rejuvenation, PDT’s dramatic effects
often overshadow any temporary inconvenience.
